I am applying to become a Challenge Detroit fellow next year. I’ve reached a stage of the application process that includes a public vote via Facebook.

    A little about the program:

“As Michigan Future magazine points out, Michigan – particularly the Greater Detroit region – has experienced a significant loss of young talent over the past several years. The country’s young people are gravitating…

    Chicago’s Aramaic-Speaking Community

I produced this segment for Worldview, on Chicago’s Aramaic-speaking community. The interview was based on an article by Ariel Sabar in Smithsonian Magazine. I included audio from Mr. Sabar’s research for his article as well as accompanying photos.

This article appeared originally in The Toledo Free Press.

When she moved to Detroit, Perrysburg native Anna Balzer didn’t know much about the Motor City. Now she can’t see herself leaving.

It was a great learning experience, and I got to have some interesting conversations along the way. More affirmation that I love my job, and that I love hearing and telling people’s stories.

See accompanying photos I took at the event below:

  6. Worldview Update

A lot of the work that I’ve done so far for Worldview has been collaborative, but I thought I’d put together a playlist to showcase some of the segments that I’ve produced myself. I’m putting this list under the ‘Radio’ tab on this site, so check back…

  8. Talking Borgen on WBEZ’s Worldview

I was so honored to be able to take part in a conversation about my favorite Danish TV show, Borgen, with June Thomas of Slate and Worldview host Jerome McDonnell. Take a listen!

  9. For the first time, all five of the National Book Foundation’s 5 under 35 authors list are ladies. I’d never heard of the NBF or this list before now, but still, #girlpower.
